SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. In other words, this means improving the ranking of your website on Google and other search engines.
Depending on the word or phrase searched for, a website will usually appear in a different position so it is important to identify what the most important key words and phrases are for your business and then optimise your website to move you up the rankings for these.
Google considers over 200 factors when they analyse and crawl through a website. These factors are then fed into their algorithm, which determines where in their rankings your website will rank for each different search term.
Some factors are more important than others. Whilst Google do not publish a list of the factors they rely on and the importance they attach to each, it is commonly accepted that some of the key factors are;
- Title and Meta tags
- The use of H1, H2 and H3 text tags
- Use of keywords and phrases
- Relevancy of the page content
- Backlinks
- Above the fold content
